BCG Olympics

Being a BCGier, I had the chance to organize one of the coolest events of the entire year at INSEAD: the BCG Olympics.

The BCG Olympics is a one-day event for all INSEADers in Singapore. It's a battle of honor between sections, spent at the beach, playing competitive and fun games. Each section nominates 2 captains, a man and a woman, and a mascot - which can be a kid, a person with a costume, an object, whatever. Throughout the day, each section participates in group tournaments of the following disciplines: dodgeball, beach volleyball, beach football, swimming, and tug of war. On top of that, there are individual games (e.g. pushup competition) and extra challenges for extra points (e.g. mannequin challenge, group pyramid, weird photos, and so on).

This amazing bonding event took place over a week ago (20th November) in Sentosa Beach. It was organized by all INSEAD 17J BCGiers (Helena, Marcelo, Chantal, Willemijn, Marcelo, Nicholas, Constantin, Paulo, Pawel, Batu, and me) and sponsored by BCG.

The day started around 12 pm with a buffet lunch at the beach, and lasted until after the sunset, with a buffet dinner and drinks, still at the beach. It was one of the most fun days we had so far - a great opportunity to spend time with everyone, not just people from our group or our section, almost all together. There was about 140 of us there. It was a true success - to such an extent that even a Mckinsey classmate of mine told me "such a cool event that I wish it was Mck organizing it". WINNNNNNN!

As mostly everyone know, I have been quite sad at BCG lately but organizing this different and successful event made me be proud of being (or at least having been in the past) part of it.

Oh DASH...

DASH is one of the coolest INSEAD traditions. It started in Singapore over 10 years ago as a race from the condo where everyone lives (Heritage View) to campus. It never was a common race though, but one where everyone had to wear their most outrageous costume and "dash" to INSEAD campus.

Yesterday was our DASH, and this unforgettable day included the following festivities:

  • 7:00 am:
    • Meeting at Heritage View poolside in our funkiest costumes, for photos and the first few drinks
  • 7:45 am:
    • Dash (in reality, walk) to INSEAD campus
  • 8:00 am:
    • Breakfast at the INSEAD courtyard
  • 8:30 am onwards:
    • Classes with lots of entertainment activities (jokes, singing, dancing, drinking games, movie shooting, and more)
    • Lunch break activities and surprises
    • Scavenger Hunt (beer vouchers for winners)
    • Drinks and snacks all over campus
  • 6:00 pm onwards:
    • Pizza and beer at the bar
    • Award ceremony with prizes for 1) craziest costume, 2) sexiest costume, 3) best group costume, 4) best section movie
    • Music and more drinks
Guess what? The Portuguese Mafia got the best group costume prize, and my section (the great A3) the prize for best movie. It was a winning day!

Guess what else? I was again asked to be the official photographer of the event. Below you can find some of the pictures I gladly shot.

This one you don't have to guess: I did not start drinking until late afternoon, and I was probably the most sober 17J on campus all day long. Me being me! That did not refrain Dash from being one of the best days on campus so far. Please see the two videos at the bottom!!!!!
